Student Mentors
In Omagh High School we use a Mentoring system. This system is used in a variety of ways. In year 8 mentors are attached to each year 8 house class. These senior students support the house teacher in ensuring that year 8 students settle in well to school life. They act as a buddy and are a friendly face in school when students are moving from class to class. Sometimes younger students can feel happier discussing their concerns with their mentor rather than a teacher and these mentors are a valuable part of the pastoral structure of the school. Mentors often support subject teachers in delivering the curriculum and act in the capacity as a teaching assistant working with individual students or small groups.
