Year 11 History pupils attend Holocaust seminar

On Monday 30th January 2023 the Year 11 History group attended a Holocaust seminar and workshop at the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh. The guest speaker was Lesley Urbach, co-chair of the ‘Generation2Generation’, an organisation enabling the continuation of Holocaust testimony. Lesley spoke eloquently and informatively of her family’s experience in Germany when the Nazis came to power in 1933 and how her mother and three aunts were fortunate enough to escape to Britain and Argentina in 1938-39 as part of the Kindertransport. She also told the harrowing story of how her grandparents were both murdered at Auschwitz as well as 50 other members of her extended family. Lesley’s account was absolutely compelling, and her presentation was engaging and warm, pitched at the perfect level for the GCSE students in attendance, and is one that the pupils will remember for a very long time.
