Recently, the year 14 biology cohort, along with the year 14 life and health science class, took part in a genetic fingerprinting workshop, hosted by the North West Regional College as part of the NI Science Festival week. Pupils extracted DNA from their own cheek cells, amplified a specific gene locus on their DNA using PCR and observed the presence of the gene (Alu insert) using gel electrophoresis. Many thanks to Francine, Diane and Robert for facilitating a fantastic day.
