On Thursday 11th and Friday 12th June, the Year 11 Double Award Science classes visited the An Creagán Centre to carry out fieldwork investigations. During the trip, students were introduced to the peatland habitat and learned about its ecological importance. They also explored key topics such as biodiversity, habitats and species adaptation.
Pupils gained hands-on experience using quadrat and random sampling methods, identifying and recording plant species within designated areas. In addition, they had the opportunity to measure bog depth as part of their investigations.
A special thank you to Aidan and Helena from the An Creagán Centre for facilitating such an engaging and informative experience, which provided an excellent practical complement to the DA Science Unit 1 Biology theory.
