Year 12 Agriculture & Land Use Visit to AFBI Hillsborough
On Wednesday 30 September, our Year 12 GCSE Agriculture and Land Use pupils had the fantastic opportunity to attend the Schools Open Day – Farm Tour at the Agri-Food Biosciences Institute (AFBI) in Hillsborough.
The visit provided pupils with a fascinating insight into a range of topics, including soil health, grassland management and anaerobic digestion, exploring how biogas can be produced as a form of renewable energy. ️
Pupils also learned about dairy production and how efficiency and sustainability can be optimised within pig and poultry systems.
Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed the visit and found it both informative and engaging — with the tractor-trailer ride proving to be a particular highlight!
A fantastic learning experience that allowed pupils to see many aspects of agricultural science and sustainable farming in action.
